However, teeth whitening is not right for you if your mouth is not healthy. If you have cavities or gum disease, for example, you’ll need proper treatment to restore your smile before you can have your teeth whitened. Wondering if you’re a good candidate? Contact us today to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation and find out if teeth whitening in Englewood Cliffs, NJ is right for you.

Cosmetic consultation

To begin the process, Dr. Thomas will perform a comprehensive oral exam and discuss all of your options for enhancing your smile. During your cosmetic consultation at Hudson Dental Edge, you’ll learn more about all of your options for improving your smile, including teeth whitening, veneers, and more.

In-office whitening

In-office whitening delivers fast results. You’ll come back for a separate appointment, and Dr. Thomas will clean and prep your teeth and gums. Then, she will apply a powerful whitener directly to your teeth and activate it with a special light. Depending on your level of staining, it’s usually possible to brighten your smile by 5-10 shades in just one appointment.

Take-home whitening

Take-home whitening allows you to whiten your smile on your schedule, and in the comfort of your own home. To begin this process, Dr. Thomas will take 3D images of your teeth. Then, she will work with a dental lab to design a set of custom, reusable whitening trays. When they're ready, you’ll come back to our office to pick these up, along with a set of whitening products. Dr. Thomas will give you instructions on how to whiten your smile at home. You’ll usually whiten your teeth for about an hour per day, and you’ll see maximum results within 2-3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ll see maximum results for 1-2 years, though some patients are able to keep their teeth bright for longer. Over time, your teeth may become dull or stained again. Adjusting your lifestyle by quitting smoking and cutting back on staining foods and drinks can help with this. Maintaining good oral hygiene and using whitening toothpaste can also help prolong your results.

You can have your teeth whitened if you have crowns and fillings. However, teeth whitening will not change the color of your dental work. This is because the materials used for fillings and crowns do not react to the whitening chemicals.

If you have existing dental work, let Dr. Thomas in Englewood Cliffs know! She can design your teeth whitening plan to match the color of your teeth to your dental work. This ensures that you can enjoy an even, beautiful smile once your treatment is over.
